What is a still life?
A still life is a work of art depicting mostly inanimate subject matter , typically commonplace objects which may be either natural (food, flowers, plants, rocks, or shells) or man-made (bottles, books, vases, jewelry, and so on). Still lives once had great meaning among artists and those who commission them to create work. The Still Life is still a common practice, especially among young artists as a practicing tool. It offers great variety of subject matter and the objects used are always within reach.
