Art I: Blown Ink Zentangles
We spent the first week studying the 7 elements of art. The first one is line, so, it is that element which we will focus on during our first project. We have created lines by blowing black ink on paper. After it dries we surround the blown ink designs with detailed lines called "zentangles" (glorified doodling). When finished we will add watercolor to complete the project.
Art 7: Fandango Inspired Celebrity Puppets
My 7th grade semester class has a "drama/theater" focus this year. I thought this was an appropriate first project to fuel our creativity. We plan on recording puppet show's so we can "preform". They will interact and try to model the personality of the character. SO FUN!
Art 8: Meet Me in the Middle Portrait
A self portrait can sometimes be an intimidating first project. BUT, I only have my 8th graders for 9 weeks. No time to waste. I wanted to prove to them that it is not impossible to create a self portrait without any former art knowledge. We are using a tool called a MIRA. It reflects any image across a line of symmetry so that the artist can easily trace the reflected image. It is made our of a special red plastic that reflects and also allows you to see through. Crazy magic!
Art 7/8
To help all Art Students at MacArthur, I have assigned my 7th and 8th graders in my 3rd period art class to create posters for each of the 7 Elements of Art. They are in groups of 3 or 4 and are working together to create an informative poster to hang in the art room for all of us to use as reference! Thanks 3rd hour!
