Students have studied various color schemes. They have chosen their favorite color scheme to use within their cup painting. The first step is to chose one of the colors within their scheme to create the circles. They do this by dipping a cup into that color of paint and stamping it repetitively on their paper so that the circles overlap. After the paint has dried completely, they will fill in some of the spaces with the other colors from their color scheme with watercolor. When the watercolor dries, oil pastel can be added to intensify their colors, or lighten or darken them.
The image below is a finished Circle Painting. This color scheme is a Triad, which means 3 colors that create a triangle when drawn a line from each color on the color wheel. The colors are; Blue-Violet, Yellow-Green, and Red-Orange.
