Art I: Optical Illusion Cube
We will create an optical illusion cube by using graphing paper, a ruler, and a pencil. We will carefully plot specific coordinates, connect them to create line segments, and connect those line segments to create an isometric form. Once the form is created we will carefully add the "checkerboard" pattern, which is very tricky! Wish us luck!
First one done! I'm so thrilled at how they turned out!
7/8 Art: Color Wheel Fun!
After studying the color wheel it is time to put our knowledge to work and have some fun! We will create a drawing that in some was has a clearly designated circular space for the colors on the color wheel (like the examples below). Each student will create an original color wheel drawing!
What can we learn from Kandinsky?
Kandinsky was an influential Russian painter and art theorist. He is credited with painting the first purely abstract works. He used many colors, lines, and shapes; three elements of art!
What art elements did he use in this painting?

Kandinsky Inspired Square Batik
What is a Batik? It is a type of wax resit. In our case the wax is crayon. Once the entire paper is colored heavily, we crumble them into a ball. (This is quite hard to get them to understand). The paper then has crinkles and cracks. We lay the paper back out flat and brush black acrylic paint onto the paper. (This is also very hard for them to understand). Then we wipe the paper off with a wet sponge. The paint stays only in the wrinkles and cracks. The bright crayon contrasts with the black paint. They turn out beautiful!

Art 8 Rotation: Color Scheme Circle Painting
We have learned about all the different color schemes; complementary, split-complementary, analogous, monochromatic and triadic. Each student will select a color scheme to paint their circle painting with. The circles will be made my dipping cups into paint and stamping the paper to create overlapping circles.
Color Game
This game works like goldfish. The goal is to select a color card and color name card that are a color match, an analogous color scheme, are complementary, triadic, or split-complementary. The class is divided into two teams. Each member of the team gets a chance to select a pair of cards. When each student has gone the game is over and points are added up to see who won!
Art 7: Emoji Sculptures
Emoji's, a highly important element to the world of text messaging. But, have you ever had an emotion that an Emoji just couldn't clearly express?! We have created a sketch of an original Emoji and are now creating them into sculptures!
